More Than Hectic

Hello.  Welcome.  I promised you the winners of my candy today but you wouldn't believe the day I've had.  One of those nothing goes right days.  A big pity because today is the day, my actual blogaversary and there has been so little time for crafting!!  Typical.  So there will be a slight delay, hope to have it all sorted tomorrow.  As long as I can work out how to work Mr Random.........   How difficult can it be????

Just thought I'd share a card I made for my nephew.  I was wrapping presents and had some torn edges and thought hmmm...  So this is a blue base with some playing cards, ripped wrapping paper and some preprinted sentiments.

Last Chance Cafe

Hello.  Welcome.  It's been a nice day today, even a bit of sun.  Lovely for this time of year.  I have been working on a birthday card this evening.  Actually there's a few things on the go but this one I have got finished.  There are a couple of birthdays coming up and I thought I'd use the recipe from Joan's Garden.  Red and brown, such great colours for this time of year.

I used MME 29th Street as my base card.  I layered with Creative Imaginations patterned paper and then embossed some kraft with Sizzix Happy Birthday embossing folder.  I used DI Barn Door on the embossed kraft and also on the edges of the layers than I distressed.  The birds were cut from DCWV Dots stack using Spellbinders Bird die.  A wobbly eye and a touch of brown ink around the edges to finish.

Hard to Find Some Peace

Hello.  Welcome.  Just a quick post.  Feeling a bit ragged today after my big pumpkin celebration last night.  For me no alcohol involved, but some of us partied til the clocks changed, so a long day and a late night.  A very good party with lots of pumpkins and cake!  Hope to have a few photo's to show soon.

I seem to be alternating between Halloween and Christmas.  This one is xmas themed.

Using the lovely LOTV penguin and presents image from the Winter Wonderland art pad.  I finally managed to get the die cut/fussy cut combination right.  Usually someone loses something vital but he's still got his scarf and tree.  Phew!  The base is a kraft card I have stamped with a Crafty Individuals corner stamp.  I've layered with a sheet from Tilda Wintergarden papers then a frame from handmade paper and the image.  The flowers are from Storyteller.  I wanted a peace and joy sentiment but couldn't find a stamp or anything that mentioned peace.  Plenty happy, merry, joy and bright but no peace.  Finally founf this on a freebie sheet from a magazine and layered it onto some kraft.  The red ink is DI Barn Door.

Boo-tiful Dreamer

Hello.  Welcome.  Feeling inspired this week by Liz Borer over at PaperArtsy.  But where to begin!!!  Such big complex projects.  Decided to start here................

The stamp is PaperArtsy Winter Wonderland Plate 6.  Love that lady and Liz made her look totally different with her colouring so thought I'd give it a go.  No witchy hat but I did colour her hair with my violet wink of stella brush.  Maybe you can see some of the spangle?  The background is Sizzix Poison embossing folder embossed onto EK Success amethyst metal sheet.  The letters were cut from the same sheet using Sizzix Ducky Wucky embosslits.  All mounted on black glitter card.

So, is she bootiful or poison?

Peter and Percival

Hello.  Welcome.  Glad you dropped by for the exciting finale.  What do you mean you are just here on the off chance.  Ah well, you're in luck.  This is the last week of my blogaversary celebrations and, don't tell anyone, but I think I kept the best til last.  If you haven't got a clue what I'm on about WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??????   You will just have to check my previous posts but if you are interested in taking part in an ATC swap you need to go here.  Anyway on with this evening's craft.

Over at Dies to Die For they have challenged us to alter one of these.  This is quite good because I got some new brushes and my pots are full to overflowing so I though rather than having this boring can on my desk I would jazz it up.  And since I like blue.....

I haven't gone over the top cos I need it practical and I thought things sticking up and out would just get wrecked in the everyday business of clearing space on the desk.  I started by covering the can with Bo Bunny Powder Mountain Flakes Paper.

I cut three Cheery Lynn Snowflake 2.  One covered the paper joint very nicely and then I spaced the other two out round the can.  I wound some bobbly wool around the bottom to give my penguins something to stand on.  Around the top I used two different laces, the thicker one under the narrower one.  Then some more wool to cover the can lip.  This is one of those cans with the ring pull so it leaves a little ledge around the top.

The penguins are Alice Palace from Crafty Individuals coloured with Salty Ocean Distress Ink.  There, pretty and practical. This is a great idea for a Christmas gift.  I can see me making some more of these.   Fab storage for my brushes, it's in use already.....

OK the moment you have been waiting for......  You haven't??  Oh well, it's here anyway.  To celebrate my first year as a blogger I am offering for your joy and delight a chance to win an A5 unmounted stamp set from Panduro called Filurer.  Google translates this as Rascals.  Got to love em.....

For a chance to win leave me some love.  Thanks for dropping by.  Back soon I hope.  Me and you both.....

Steampunk Pink

Hello.  Welcome.  Just a quick pink post before I have to go out in the wind and the rain.  A bit yukky here today and I would love to stay in and craft but needs must.......

I used My Minds Eye 29th Street Market as my card base.  I added layers of paper from the stash and added a swirl and flowers cut using Sizzix Flowers and Vine #3 die.  I added a little pink flower brad to each flower.  The owl is cut using Cheery Lynn Owls with Gears die.  The sentiment is a pre-printed die cut.

Sometimes We Amaze Ourself

Hello.  Welcome.  Gosh, isn't the month just clipping along.  I have my annual harvest/thanksgiving/pumpkin party on Saturday.  Not really ready but I'm sure it will be alright on the night.  At least the pumpkin patch did it's bit this year.  Last year was a wash out.  This year my star of the show, named ED, cos when you put a light in him he becomes a shrunken 'ed, ha ha ROFL, sorry sad case humor.  Anyway, that wasn't a sentence, Ed is 21kg, that's about 44lb for those on the other side of the pond.  A respectable specimen.  The boys are going to be carving tomorrow and I am hoping for serious art.  Hmmmmm, does that count as 'altered art'????

Tonight I have a little something that is just so out of my comfort zone I think I must have been possesed.  Bwahahahahahahahahahaha.  Hope he or she pays a return visit because I am very pleased with my vintage effort.  I don't do vintage.  I like the style but it never turns out right for me.  I don't do lots of fluff and nonsense, but lo and behold plenty embellishment happening tonight.  Maybe it's just the fact that this one has been coming together over a few days so I've had time to add a little, take a bit away, add a little more.  Must try that more often.  Finding time!!  LOL

Over at Eclectic Paperie they have challenged us to alter a box.  I found these acrylic pillow boxes the other day when I was having a bit of a tidy so I thought I'd try to do something with it.  Ignore the lightning flash on the photo.  This is a clear acrylic box some embossing folders came in.

I covered my box with some handmade paper.  This is quite thick and soft with a lovely texture.   I stuck it to the box using double sided carpet tape.  Serious stick power.  Cheery Lynn's challenge is vintage.  Not a strong style for me but I thought I'd see how I got on.  Decided to go with neutral and brown colours.  This is where the fun of putting it together overtook the photo taking.  I started well......

Ta dah.....finished.  Sorry about that.  Lets see......  The music paper, the stars and the butterflies are 7 Gypsies Harmony double sided papers, available from EP.  I used three different papers but obviously they have a different pattern on the back!  Loved that when I cut the Cheery Lynn Mini Dimensional Butterflies cos it was like two for one, just turn them over for a totally different look.  So I ripped some on the 7G music paper and the darker brown strip is crunchy waxed paper from PaperArtsy that I stamped with the bottle stamp from LPC01.  Can't see much of that but trust me it's fab.  The string is some white kitchen string I coloured with Walnut Stain DI and then washed to get the right shade.  The image from LOTV Action Time art pad was ripped and matted onto another piece of that handmade paper, this time a pale brown colour.  The edges of all the papers and the box have been coloured with VersaMagic Gingerbread and Jumbo Java.

The Cheery Lynn Dreamcatcher #2 was cut from the brown handmade paper and tinted with the VersaMagic inks.  I added some seed beads.  These are the tiniest seed beads I have ever tried to work with.  There's more hole than bead!!  Definitely more fiddle than I would usually do but worth the effort I think.

The stars look great but were so simple.  Dawny P had a wreath made with these today over at LOTV but gave the original link so check out the tut here.  I cut them using a Spellbinders stars die.  I added some copper rings from Korthobby which are supposed to be necklace locks but they looked good here soooooo........

I think that's everything.  I think this will make a great gift box for a boy.  It's not so big but I think some chocolate and maybe a gift card would fit in there great for a lovely birthday present.  Please let me know what you think.

Feeling a Bit Pumpkin

Hello.  Welcome.  No high art here this morning.  I think I've gone a little bit stranger than normal.  This is so not me but once I started I couldn't control myself.  So not clean.  Pretty simple though so one out of too ain't bad.

What dat den?  I hear you cry.  It's inspired by Joanne, although you are forgiven for finding that difficult to believe!!  Anyway, Joanne did this nice thing with grunge paste through a die cut and I thought pumpkins.  So I cut a mask using a sizzix pumpkin die and filled it with texture paste.   I think mine has some plastic qualties cos when I hit it with the heat gun to hustle it along it got all bubbly.  Oooh, warty pumpkin.  Perfect.  Then I painted my pumpkin with Fresco Finish Butternut, of course!  Then I stamped a couple of vines from PA ELB04 using VersaMagic chalk ink.  It looked like it needed a bit more so a whole garden later.........

It's kind of growing on me.  No pun intended.  Definately not my usual style.  Possibly no ones usual style!  Loved the texture paste thru the diecut.  Definitely something to use again.

Thanks for dropping by.  Candy available this week.  Just leave me some love.  If the above project doesn't appeal then we can always talk about the weather.  Or maybe you have grown pumpkins this year.  My biggest is 21kg.  Anyone beating that???

And Then There Were Three

Hello.  Welcome.  A special hellooo to Viera.  Welcome to the following.  Well, I finally got around to trying a technique I saw ages ago and though it looked interesting, if a little scary.  Basically you stick lots of bits of this and that on a canvas or card and then paint the whole thing black.  Gosh, it seems a little extreme but the effect is a total wow.  I recommend giving this a try.  It's also a great way to use up your scraps.....

I started with a piece of corrugated card that used to be packaging and ripped it in various places to expose some corrugations.  Then I stuck lots of different die cut bits and pieces on it.  Dies used on the background were all from Cheery Lynn: Hearts n' Gears, Spider Web Mesh Border, Pocket Watch, Snowflake 2, English Tea Party Doily and Spring Flower Burst Doily.

So the scary part.  Paint it all black and.....Wow!  The texture pops.  The paint looks matt on the flat areas and glossy on the slopes of the corrugations.  Fantastic.  I didn't take a picture of the next part but I added some orange paint and then wiped the surface with a paper towel to take most away, just leaving it in the negative texture.

I cut Cheery Lynn Spider Web Border in orange and put one up each side.  I cut my owls using the brand new Cheery Lynn die Owl with Gears.  Aren't they just the cutest steampunk style ever.  These were only released a few days ago but I just had to have them.  There are both sizes in the set.  I cut them from orange patterned paper and then backed them with black glitter card.  The nest is ripped orange glitter paper.

The orange and black rose buds were made using a bead and a flower paper punch and were inspired by Irina's tutorial

I've put a card frame around my collage until I can get a proper frame.

Late For My Own Party......

Hello.  Welcome.  This was supposed to be on a screen near you yesterday but my man had a successful hunt and we spent last evening sorting things out.  So I'm late for my own blogaversary celebration!!  No worries, it's not unheard of.  LOL.  Anyway I thought I'd start with a little make that is also using a stamp from tonights candy.  Hurrah.  This giving things away is quite good fun.  Stay with me.  I will be drawing some lucky winners at the end of the month and if anyone is interested in an ATC swap check this post

I was trying to follow the sketch for this months Die-namites challenge.  Anyway I've used Basic Grey Eva Rouge eva-1359 and my background.  I embossed with Sizzix Bricked folder and then cut using Vintage Cabinet Card die.  I distressed the edge and then hit that and the embossed areas with some black archival.  The die cut in black is Die-namites Spring Branch.  The chef is from Panduro's Boys stamp set.  I added some metal charms from Korthobby so he had a little patio to BBQ on. I added a happy birthday sentiment on a little tag.

Christmas and Birthdays

Hello.  Welcome.  This is a double post to save both you and I some time.  I have a veritable load of projects on the go and the desk is looking like a bombsite again and things are starting to get lost so I have taken myself in hand and managed to get two projects finished.  Hurray.  Gosh, my plastic chair feels positively icy.  A cool autumn day today.  Hang on a minute while I find a blanket to put over it.  ........elevator music............  There, that's better.  It's been so warm in my little space over the summer but now the year is turning and cosy socks and hot chocolate with marshmallows are definitely on the agenda.

Let's start with Christmas.  I made a 14cm square base from silver card.  I cut a Cheery Lynn Spring Flower Burst Doily and a Sizzix Ornament #5 from white card.  The ornament I embossed with the matching folder and then I decided the white was too stark and hit it all with Brilliance Starlight Silver.  I cut the doily in four to use as corners and added some red organza ribbon and a double bow.  It's OK but maybe it needs some bling.  What do you think?

The second thing I have been working on is a clean and simple card inspired by Joanne over at PaperArtsy.  Well, hers was clean and simple  LOL

Joanne's cards look fantastic and you think "I'll just knock out one of those cos I have a few minutes" and then 5 pieces of inky card later it "oh fiddlesticks!!"  I decided to use the PaperArtsy Dragonfly die.  I used Limelight and Inky Pool but didn't have the splat stamp.  After being only able to product very fine splats with a paintbrush I resorted to the tiny circles stamp from PA SM12.  I had some limelight left on my mat after the stamping and sponging so decided to go a bit mad with the circle stamp.  See, not clean at all.  A fish die would have been better cos my dragonfly looks like he's flying through bubbles.  The sentiment is from SIDD5.

And then there's this.  This is actually my favourite make from this afternoons crafting.  A bit more CAS maybe?  The background is my attempt at splats with Pea Coat.  The dragonfly is the die cut from above that I have doodled on.

A Little Jingle

Hi.  Welcome.  Just a quick little post cos I was playing with a stamp I found the other day in the bottom of the stash and inspiration struck.

I've used Hero Arts Stunning Snowflake stamp.  I stamped on pale blue card, embossed with white and cut out using Crafts-Too Frames 7 dies.  I layered the top layer on foam pads and added some Distress Ink Salty Ocean.  I also added some iridescent glitter glue to the dots on the top layer, although that doesn't show so well.  The little label is a pre-printed one which I cut with the smallest die in the set to match it in.  Quick and simple, just what we need at Christmas.

Happy Booday

Hello.  Welcome.  A special BOO to Michelle A who has just joined our jolly little band.  I have been having great fun with this card.  Over at Stampotique Val challenged us to use handles, hinges, buckles etc.  From small acorns large oak trees grow.

It's the little house in the witches garden.  I've used kraft card, embossed with Sizzix Woodgrain embossing folder and coloured with VersaMagic Gingerbread and Jumbo Jave and Distress Ink Walnut Stain.  The hinges are cut using PaperArtsy Hardware #1 die and the trim on the roof comes from Tando Work of Parts Sweet Tooth kit.  I love that I can emboss the Tando chipboard pieces.  Ooh, the bats are flying.  Maybe there's someone home........

Happy Booday it's Little Hoo Hoo, a stamp by Stampotique.  Little Hoo Hoo is really pleased the witch left her almanac behind because it gives him something to read.  Also the pages are soft and there's lots of them.......

For the Love of Fishing

Hello.  Welcome.   We are having a few beautiful days.  Bright and sunny, makes you feel like being out and tackling some of the jobs that need doing before winter gets a grip.  It's cold at night, just to remind us that winter is coming.  Hopefully not too soon.  So let's enjoy the autumn while we can.  Over at PaperArtsy Alison Bomber has been making some lovely projects using some lovely stamp.  I usually like to make something that has a purpose or a destination in mind before I start.  I loved Alison's second project and decided to make art for arts sake.  To my satisfaction when I came to choose my stamps the project kind of defined itself.

If you want the steps check out the link above.  I've used a flat canvas, added book paper, texture paste through a Crafters Workshop mask, covered it with white then used VersaMagic Gingerbread and Jumbo Java.  Then I went a bit mad with the gold embossing powder.  First I stamped corners using a swirl stamp from PA SIDD5 set.  They looked a bit lonely out on the corners all alone so I thought I'd join them up with a bit of freehand doodling using my embossing ink pen.  Now usually this is a bad idea.  OK, not a bad idea but it just doesn't look how I imagined when I finish.  This time I'm content with my effort.

For my central image I have used a stamp from Kort og Godt.  My tags are stamped with foliage from PA ELB04 and the sentiment is from PA USNT4.  The buttons, love those buttons, were stamped with PA Winter Wonderland Plate 6 and and stamps from ASI2.  I added a couple of metal leaf charms from Korthobby.  These were silver but I added a bit of the Gingerbread and Jumbo Java, which I also used for all the stamping, to blend them in.  It was fun working with this limited palette.  The buttons are something I will definitely be doing again.  I think this will be perfect for a young fisherman.  And his dog.

It's Candy Time

Hello.  Welcome.  Just a quick post tonight with a little Halloween card.  This was going to have butterflies on it but after a little fussy cutting accident it ended up with pumpkins and ravens.

I've taken advantage of patterned paper to make this card.  All papers are My Minds Eye, the base card is 29th Street Market with supporting cast from Lost and Found Halloween and Mischievous.  I've cut the card base and the papers with Crafts-Too Frames 7 die.  Some fussy cutting also round the pumpkins and raven.  I added three glitter dots.  The glitter strip was already on the papers.

Wing of Bat

Hello, welcome and boo to you.  Having a inspired month here at the Crafty Nomad.   Have you checked out my candy?  More excitement tomorrow so don't forget to check back regularly this month.  It's just so much fun to share with you.  I love the challenges at Joan's Garden.  Joan always comes up with such great recipes.  This week it's purple and green, torn edges and layers.   I can work with that.....

I started with a purple card, distressed the edges and added some dark purple ink to make it stand out.  I cut Cheery Lynn Spider Web Mesh Border from green paper and cut it lengthways.  I tore three different patterned papers and layered them and the web border.  I cut Cheery Lynn Pocket watch in green, added a purple lizard skin effect paper behind and a frog button.  It's a frogket watch!

I added some bats and a spider button.

The bottle is a stamp from PaperArtsy LPC01 set, coloured with purple wink of stella brush and then covered with glossy accents.  It shimmers, it shines.  The pumpkin is small pumpkin embossing folder from Sizzix on sanded core'dination card and the Halloween is another button, from Dress It Up I think.

Pin This

Hello.  Welcome.  I think this is a fun time of year.  All weirdness allowed.  The cuter the better.  I admit to being a bit technologically challenged.  I just want to sit down at my laptop, blog or check my emails and then get on with other things.  I sometimes feel I have beamed onto another planet.  I don't facebook and really don't understand how to tweet, flickr, bip, bop or pin.  I'm not sure my cute little voodoo doll gets it either.....

The Voodoo doll image is from Sketchoo, the skulls from Crafty Moments.  I coloured the image with Memory Markers and cut him out.  I was going to put him on a fancy background but I placed him on this ATC to check size and thought he looked good, so there he is.  The pins are a cocktail stick coloured silver with my Pilot Silver Marker.  I cut it in half and added a skull with glossy accents.  One Voodoo Doll, ready to Pin!

The One Legged No Eyed Deer

Hello and welcome.  There are many things I should be doing today, no must do today, but decided I just wanted to finish this tag I was working on and share it with you.  Over at PaperArtsy Jo Myhill has been sharing some great projects, if a bit out of the comfort zone.  This quarters guest designers are certainly challenging us.  Anyway after being totally bamboozled by the whole I decided to pick one element and just get started.  Somewhere along the way it all went a bit strange, in a good way, and this tag is the result.

I was looking at Jo's first project which had quite a lot of elements but I decided to start at the tag.  I coloured my tag with VersaMagic Chalk Inks, my coffee and cake combo of Jumbo Java and Gingerbread.  These two are delicious together.  Then I stamped with the round stamp from LPC001.  Actually I have used a surprising number of stamps on this tag.  Jo had stamped on crunchy wax paper so I did that with the line of circles from SIBM4.  Then I cut it into strips, pleated it and stuck it down.  Then I went looking in the chipboard box for a heart to stamp and found a very nice rocket!!  Yeah, now it starts to go a bit off track.

Since my colours were looking a bit blokey I thought OK on the rocket.  I've coloured it with Pea Coat and Inky Pool.  Then I stamped Winter Wonderland Plate 6 in Limelight.  Her eyes are just under the 'it's your' but don't damage your eyesight trying to make it out.  I went round the edge of the rocket with a gold ink pad but it needed something so I went around again with the Gingerbread.  That reminded me of my favourite little circles stamp from SM12 so gingerbread circles all over.  Then the sentiment from SIDD5.

I stamped the saying 'what is today but tomorrow's yesterday' from SIDD1 on crunchy wax paper and cut it out.  I stuck the first three words at the top and the last two at the bottom and threw away the but.  Some nice fibers for a tie and my tag is done.  Really like the pleated wax paper.  I mounted my rocket on sticky pads so it sits above the pleats.

Penguin Time

Hello.  Welcome.  Have you seen my candy?  Check out that post for a chance to win and an ATC swap.  Taking a little break from Halloween and looking forward to Christmas with a cute card using Cheery Lynn dies and an LOTV image.

I wanted to try a white and kraft colour scheme because I've been seeing some beautiful cards around with that colour combo.  I'm quite pleased with the result.  I used a kraft card and cut a smaller layer.  I edged this with lace and silver glitter.  I cut 6 Cheery Lynn Snowflake 2 and layered then with white flowers cut using Sizzix Flowers and Vines #3 die and a silver snowflake brad.  The image is from LOTV Winter Wonderland art pad which I tore and added silver glitter around the edge.  The greeting is hand written because I couldn't find a christmas greeting stamp!!  Would you believe it!  I am convinced I will turn around in a minute and a whole box full will fall on my head.  One of those days.  I added a bit of coffee and cake around the greeting and the edge of the card.

Fancy a Swap??

Hello and Welcome.  Well, this month is my Blogaversary!!  Soon Crafty Nomad will be 1.  Wow, I can still remember how long it took me to pluck up the courage to start a blog.  My joy at my first post, my first comment, my first follower!!  Now I'm an old hand with 41 followers and better art.  How can I not have improved with all the support, encouragement, inspiration and love you gals and guys have shared with me.  So I'd like to show my appreciation and share back a little.

The plan is to have a few candy items available here through the month.  Best laid plans and all that.  To start off I decided I would like to do an ATC swap.  Any takers?  That's not candy I hear you say.  So right you are.  The thing is I have a few ATC's just sitting here waiting for new homes and have been thinking about a swap for a while.  So I thought this might be a fun thing to do to kick off my blogaversary party.  Also a little candy.  The plan was to have a few giveaways, small candy but more than one winner, rather than one person getting the lot.  I want to share the love around.  To start us off I have an A5 sheet of unmounted rubber called Spring Girls from Panduro.  These are cute, stamp very well and always get me nice comments when I use them.

So what to do.

1. Leave a comment below if you would like a chance at this modest candy.  Please mention which of my projects from the last year is your favourite and why.  If you would like to follow me that's nice but it's not a requirements.  As much as I would love more followers I think it's nice if you follow because you like what I do and not just because you want a chance at the candy.

2. If you would like to participate in an ATC swap please mention that below and email me craftynomad at gmail dot com with you address details.   I am in Norway and am quite happy to swap ATC's worldwide.  If you like a particular ATC I have posted please mention it in your comment although I can't guarantee that it will be, or even is, still available.   You can check them out my clicking on the ATC label on the RHS and it will bring up just those posts.  I hope there are lots of people who would like to swap.  It will make me happy if I have to make more.....

In anticipation I have made this little autumn offering using one of the stamps from the above set.

The backing paper is from the Basic Grey Serenade pad.  The tiny leaves were punched using a Fiskars border punch.  The Spring Girl doing autumn leaf cleanup was coloured with Sharpie pens which I recieved as a surprise gift from my lovely sister.  Hello Sister.
